Die Junge Gemeinde (JG) Stadtmitte ist bis heute eine von mehreren Sprengeln der evangelischen Jugend in Jena. In der DDR agierte sie als einzige der Stadt unmittelbar im Zusammenhang der "Offenen Arbeit", mit der seit den 1970er Jahren unter dem Dach der Kirche selbst-organisierte und basisorientierte Angebote auch für konfessionell ungebundene Jugendliche geschaffen wurden. Durch eine eigenständige Unterschriftensammlung gegen die Ausbürgerung Wolf Biermanns erregte die JG Stadtmitte 1976 große Aufmerksamkeit, die die Staatssicherheit der DDR mit harter Repression beantwortete. Viele ihrer Mitglieder wurden gezwungen, das Land zu verlassen. Die JG Stadtmitte blieb jedoch das Zentrum für oppositionelle Arbeit in Jena. Aus ihr ging die Friedensgemeinschaft Jena hervor. Sie bot auch der Gruppe "Künstler für Andere" Räume, und der in der Untersuchungshaft der Staatssicherheit ums Leben gekommene Matthias Domaschk gehörte ihr ebenfalls an. Um an ihn und die bis heute ungeklärten Umstände seines Todes zu erinnern, hatte sich das Thüringer Archiv für Zeitgeschichte nach Matthias Domaschk (1957-1981) benannt.

Jakabffy Elemér Foundation

The purpose of the Foundation was to collect, systematize, and provide information concerning the history of the Hungarian minority in Romania, with a special focus on the period after 1989. One further aim was to provide an institutional background for Hungarian social scientific research in Cluj, especially in political science and contemporary history. With this end in view, the Foundation regularly organizes roundtable discussions and seminars, and it continuously enlarges its collection of manuscripts, the collection of audio materials (interviews) and documentaries, the collection of periodicals (beginning in 1990), and its library.

The Foundation has no paid employees, neither for research nor for administration. The library is run by university students. New materials which are made part of the collection are also organized mostly by students, and professional input is furnished by researchers Nándor Bárdi and József D. Lőrincz. The organizational functioning is ensured by researcher Izabella Györgyjakab and the president of the Foundation, István Székely.

Jan Hus Educational Foundation

The Jan Hus Educational Foundation is an international, non-political, educational and cultural organisation founded to support the cultural opposition, the development of education and freedom in the former Czechoslovakia. The organisation was established in Oxford, the first meeting held on July 8^th, 1980. Until 1989, the Jan Hus Educational Foundation was established abroad and developed in several branches (Great Britain, France, Canada, USA, Belgium, Germany). Its activities focused mainly on creating a network of underground universities, translating and publishing works by significant Western thinkers in samizdat, organising and supporting other independent cultural activities.

The Foundation has been operated under the same name till the present day. In 1990, the seat was moved to Brno and covered the entire geographical area of the former Czechoslovakia with various organisational changes. The transformation of the political and social situation after the Velvet Revolution has slightly modified the focus of the Foundation, but its goal has been and is still very similar - to support educational activities and strengthen civil society.

Jan Nowak-Jeziorański Association Radio Free Europe

The Association was founded in 1994, just after the Polish Section of Radio Free Europe ended its broadcasting. It serves as a place of networking for former members of Free Europe milieu and disseminating the history of Radio Free Europe to younger generations.
