Fotographische Sammlung von Jürgen Nagel

Das Deutsche Historische Museum in Berlin erhielt 1991 die Nutzungsrechte für eine Fotoserie von Jürgen Nagel. Zum Zeitpunkt, an dem die DDR als abgeschlossene Epoche betrachtet wurde, engagierte sich das Museum aktiv für den Erwerb von Gegenständen, die für das Regime repräsentativ waren. Jürgen Nagels Fotos sind für die Erfassung des Alltagslebens in der DDR bedeutsam und zeigen zuletzt auch die Herbstdemonstrationen 1989 in Ost-Berlin und den letzten Tagen der DDR im Oktober 1990.

Archive of László Beke

As an art historian and curator, László Beke took an active role as both a participant and theoretician in the development of the Hungarian neo–avant-garde movements that had been marginalized by the cultural politics of the time in Hungary. Beke’s private archive, which is kept at the Budapest City Archives, provides a precise imprint of his activities: instead of working from the perspective of a critic, he engaged the artists as a partner. In this spirit he initiated many exhibitions and projects, the documents of which provide the backbone of the archive, complemented with the outcome of his systematic collecting activities that began in his early teens.

Artists' Archives of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw

Artists’ Archives gather private collections of artists, documenting the most significant phenomena in post-1945 Polish art, including those which opposed the system or were criticised by the authorities.
Many of these, are the work of creators and milieus engaged in the critique of the authorities and the cultural mainstream of Polish People's Republic. The Archives, designed as an integral part of the new Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, collects artzines, manifestos, private and official letters, as well as documentation of artistic activities. Its collection is being digitised and published via Internet portal. The unveiling of every new collection is treated as an exhibition marked by a series of panels and meetings.

Collection of Rudolf Sikora

The items in Rudolf Sikora’s personal collection are important because of the value they acquired through their connection between the original artistic happenings and the meaning they were given in relation to normalisation-era policies. Their reference to the avant-garde were seen as oppositional, and this fact influenced Sikora’s further activities as well as the entire group of artists commenting on and creating works with similar themes, such as environmental issues. The collection was created gradually since 1970, particularly from the time of a so-called Open atelier in his appartement on Tehelná street in Bratislava (19 December 1970). Although the pieces in his personal collection are only a fraction of his artistic production, for the majority of this was recently acquired by the Slovak national gallery, they still have significant value.
